MRT Red Line Eastern Extension — Now Opening This Month

Status update (Jul 23, 2026 — Taiwan News): Taipei Metro Tamsui–Xinyi Line extension confirmed on track for end-August 2026 opening. Revised from original Jun 2026 target after failing fire safety inspection Jun 10. Final government inspection scheduled; approvals received and documents submitted.

The 1.4 km underground extension runs east from Xiangshan Station along Xinyi Road Section 6. New terminal: 廣慈/豁然寺站 (Guangci / Fengtian Temple Station). Adds the Guangci district (慈惠堂, 福德宮 Fude Temple) and Fengtian Temple (豁然寺) to direct Red Line access. Projected daily ridership: 20,000 additional passengers. This station will be operational by Nov 2–6 if opening proceeds as scheduled. Water leak repairs to underground station structure are ongoing per Jun 2026 report — confirm via DORTS (english.dorts.gov.taipei) before departure.

NT$8,000 Repeat Visitor Voucher — Portal Still Not Live

Program announced Jun 18, 2026 (Tourism Administration). Structure: NT$5,000 travel discounts for repeat foreign visitors + NT$3,000 if one or more companions brought. Tied to FY2026 budget approval; portal on taiwan.net.tw not yet live as of Aug 10. No launch date announced. Check taiwan.net.tw before departure (Oct 2026). Eligibility criteria have not been published — "repeat visitor" definition not yet defined in official documentation.

Taiwan Pride tail-off compressed Nov 2 availability at announcement; remaining inventory is shrinking. Target: Zhongzheng, Da'an, or Zhongshan districts. Confirmed hotel (trip base): Finders Hotel Fu Qian (路境行旅-府前館), No. 86 Sec. 1 Chongqing S. Rd, Zhongzheng; if not yet booked, treat as urgent.
BOOK NOW — Taipei 101 Skyline 460. Outdoor roof walk (~460 m, ~10 m above 101F), NTD 3,000; advance booking required. Outdoor element closes in rain/high wind — NE monsoon is active Nov 2–6; secure booking + understand refund/rebooking terms before purchasing. Observatory (89F, NTD 600) needs no advance booking.
Sep 2026 — Check and buy ART TAIPEI tickets. Nov 2 (final day, 11:00–18:00) is the only day of the fair within the window. Ticket sales likely open ~8–10 weeks before opening (late Aug–Sep). Monitor art-taipei.com.

Transit Updates

  • Red Line extension (Guangci/Fengtian Temple): Expected open end Aug 2026. Confirm via DORTS before departure.
  • Sanying Line (Light Blue, 三鶯線): Open Jun 30, 2026. 14 stations; connects Sanxia/Yingge to Dingpu (Blue Line). Relevant if visiting Yingge Ceramics Museum.
  • Airport MRT: NT$160 to Taipei Main Station (35 min T1 / 38 min T2).
