Method

Ten minutes at an ordinary walking pace is roughly 800 metres. This report catalogues 26 places inside that radius of Finders Hotel Fu Qian, No. 86, Sec. 1, Chongqing South Road — cafés, parks, museums, monuments, shopping streets and transit — none previously covered in this topic. Ten places already reported are carried on the map as lettered context pins so the neighbourhood reads as one picture.

The hotel stands mid-block on Chongqing South Road between Wuchang Street and Hengyang Road, inside the footprint of the Qing prefectural city. Everything below is on foot. Walking times are stated per entry.

Schematic, not to scale. The street grid is simplified and block spacing is regularised for legibility; relative positions and the sequence of streets are accurate, absolute distances are not. Use it to understand what lies in which direction, not to navigate. The dashed ring marks the approximate 10-minute limit.

Cafés and Drinks

1樂透咖啡 — No. 70, Sec. 1, Chongqing South Road. ~1 min

2NOTCH咖啡 — No. 35, Sec. 1, Chongqing South Road. ~2 min
Opens 07:30, three floors, iced americano NTD 75. The earliest useful opening on this list and the practical choice for working or waiting out morning drizzle.

09:00–18:00. No minimum order, no service charge, no time limit, free Wi-Fi and power outlets; order at the counter, seating first-come. Brunch, cinnamon rolls and thick pancakes. ☎ 02-2381-8613.

4公園號酸梅湯 — No. 2, Hengyang Road. ~4 min
A sour plum drink stand at the corner of 228 Park, trading since 1960 (street cart first, shopfront from 1969), in a mock-Baroque arcade building that was a tailor's shop in the Japanese era. Osmanthus sour plum: NTD 35 medium cup, NTD 55 small bottle, NTD 120 large bottle. Three scoops of old-style ice cream NTD 40. 10:30–19:30. ☎ 02-2311-3009.

Parks and Open Ground

5二二八和平公園 — 228 Peace Memorial Park — bounded by Gongyuan, Xiangyang, Zhongshan S. and Ketagalan. ~4 min
71,520 m², open 24 hours, free. The nearest real green space, and the neighbourhood's outdoor room. Holds a Japanese-era radio mast, a bronze ox, a preserved steam locomotive, two Qing memorial archways (8, 9), an open-air bandstand, and the 228 Memorial Museum (7). Under November drizzle the tree cover is genuinely useful.

18西本願寺廣場 — Nishi Honganji Square — No. 174-1, Sec. 1, Zhonghua Road. ~9 min
The surviving fragments of a Japanese Buddhist temple complex: the bell tower and the 樹心會館 hall, brick-built with a Western timber roof frame carrying a Japanese roof form. Square open at all hours, free. 樹心會館 Tue–Sun 10:00–17:00; main hall Mon–Fri 09:00–17:00. ☎ 02-2311-5355.

Museums, Monuments and Historic Fabric

6國立臺灣博物館 本館 — National Taiwan Museum — No. 2, Xiangyang Road, at the north edge of 228 Park. ~5 min
Taiwan's oldest museum, in a Greek Doric-order building. NTD 30 — the same ticket covers the Land Bank Exhibition Hall (D). Tue–Sun 09:30–17:00, closed Mondays.

7台北二二八紀念館 — Taipei 228 Memorial Museum — inside 228 Park. ~6 min
Housed in the 1930 Taipei Broadcasting Station — the transmitter from which news of the 28 February 1947 incident was first broadcast, which is why the museum is in this building specifically. NTD 20. Tue–Sun 10:00–17:00, closed Mondays.

8急公好義坊 — 228 Park. ~6 min
A three-bay, four-pillar Qing memorial archway of 1888, honouring the Wanhua scholar-official 洪騰雲. Originally on Shipaifang Street near Ximen; moved here in 1905 for road works; designated a municipal historic site 19 Aug 1985. Free, outdoors.

9黃氏節孝坊 — 228 Park. ~6 min
The park's second relocated Qing archway, a chastity-and-filial-piety memorial. Free, outdoors. The two arches together are the oldest built objects inside the radius.

10臺大醫院西址舊館 — NTU Hospital West Site, old building — No. 1, Changde Street. ~7 min
Completed 1921 after nine years of rebuilding; on completion the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia. Renaissance-style tropical architecture — brick from the Yuanshan kiln, Alisan cypress throughout, Su'ao slate roof, red-and-white banding in washed granolithic. Municipal historic site since 25 Mar 1998. A working hospital: the lobby and corridors are publicly accessible, the wards are not. Be unobtrusive.

12北門 承恩門 — Beimen, and Beimen Plaza — Zhongxiao W. Rd at Bo'ai Rd. ~8 min
Completed 1884; of the five gates of the Qing prefectural city, the only one that survives in original form — the other three standing gates were remodelled beyond recognition and the west gate was demolished. Closed gatehouse form with sighting windows only; the plaque reads 承恩門, "gate that receives imperial grace." The plaza was completed 3 Aug 2017 and traces the Qing wall line and the Japanese-era railway and boulevard in its paving. Free, outdoors, always open.

13臺北郵局 — Taipei Post Office — No. 114, Sec. 1, Zhongxiao West Road. ~8 min
Completed 1930 to a design by 栗山俊一, four storeys in an eclectic manner joining classical European elements to modernist massing. Municipal historic site — and still a working post office, so it doubles as the place to post cards or buy stamps.

14臺北記憶倉庫 — Mitsui Warehouse — No. 265, Sec. 1, Zhongxiao West Road. ~10 min
A 1914 red-brick Mitsui & Co. goods warehouse, relocated and restored, now a free exhibition space on the development of Taipei's west side. Tue–Sun 10:00–18:00, closed Mondays (some listings give 11:00–19:00 — telephone 02-2371-4597). Free. At the outer edge of the radius.

15國立臺灣博物館 鐵道部園區 — Railway Department Park — No. 2, Sec. 1, Yanping North Road. ~11 min
The 1919 Railway Department headquarters, restored and opened 2020. Model railway, dynamic rail exhibits, restored offices. NTD 100. Tue–Sun 09:30–17:00, closed Mondays. ☎ 02-2558-9790. Marginally outside 10 minutes — budget 11–12.

16臺北賓館 — Taipei Guest House — No. 1, Ketagalan Boulevard. ~8 min
The former Governor-General's residence, a national historic site, now used for state ceremonies and visiting dignitaries. Free, 08:00–16:00 on opening days, guided commentary every 30 min (08:30–11:30, 13:00–15:00).

Opens only 1–2 days per month, and those days fall at weekends. All five days of the Nov 2–6 window are weekdays, so Taipei Guest House will almost certainly be shut for this trip. Confirm the 2026 opening calendar on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs site, or ☎ 02-2348-2999 on a weekday, before building any plan around it.

17國軍歷史文物館 — Armed Forces Museum — No. 243, Sec. 1, Guiyang Street. ~9 min
Free. Mon–Fri, plus the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturday, 09:00–16:30; shut on national holidays and whenever government offices close. The weekday-only pattern makes it available across the whole trip window. ☎ 02-2331-5730.

Shopping Streets and Markets

19博愛路 相機街 — Camera Street — Bo'ai Road, one block west; spilling into Hankou Street. ~2 min
Roughly 50 camera and photographic equipment shops in a few hundred metres — the two streets together are called 博漢區, and the density and single-mindedness of the cluster has no equivalent anywhere. Dates to the Japanese era. Local business-association counts put around 98 specialist shops in the wider block. Promotions cluster before Lunar New Year and in summer, so November is an ordinary trading month.

20重慶南路 書店街 — the Book Street — the hotel's own street. 0 min
Once over 100 bookshops; down to 22 by 2020 and fewer now. Kingstone closed its branch in 2018, at which point the street formally lost the designation. What survives includes 三民書局 重南店 (No. 61), trading over sixty years and still a serious academic bookshop. The street is now mostly business hotels and restaurants — worth understanding as you walk it rather than as a shopping destination.

21沅陵街 皮鞋街 — Shoe Street — Yuanling Street. ~3 min
Shoe shops appeared here in the 1970s and peaked at about thirty. Mass-market styling at low prices, and the local speciality is 零碼鞋 — broken-run stock in a full spread of sizes. The city has since installed an entrance gateway and pedestrianised sections.

22城中市場 — Chengzhong Market — the lane network north-west of the hotel. ~2 min
Began as a vegetable market, and in the 1970s–80s turned into a women's clothing district as the fabric trade on Hengyang and Bo'ai fed it; the garment stalls then spread into Yuanling Street. A registered vendor concentration rather than a covered market — expect lanes, not a hall. Several of this topic's food entries (F, H) sit inside it.

23衡陽路 — Hengyang Road. ~2 min
The Japanese-era 榮町, the smartest shopping street in the colonial capital, and still lined with arcaded frontages. Historically the fabric trade. Walk it for the buildings above the shopfronts — the ground floors have turned over many times, the upper storeys have not.

Transit and Practicalities

11MRT 台大醫院站 — NTU Hospital Station (Red Tamsui-Xinyi Line) ~5 min
The closest station, on the west side of 228 Park. Exit 2 surfaces at the hospital's Changde Street entrance (10).

24MRT 西門站 — Ximen Station (Blue Bannan / Green Songshan-Xindian) ~8 min
Exits 4 and 5 surface beside Zhongshan Hall (C). The interchange for Ximending and for Longshan Temple.

25MRT 台北車站 — Taipei Main Station (Red / Blue / Airport MRT / TRA / HSR) ~10 min
Airport MRT to Terminal 1 in 35 min, Terminal 2 in 38 min, NTD 160. A 10-minute walk with luggage on arrival day is viable but unpleasant in rain — the underground mall network runs most of the way if you enter at the right point.

26Convenience stores, pharmacies and ATMs — Kaifeng, Hankou and Wuchang streets. 1–3 min
This is a dense central commercial district, and 7-Eleven and FamilyMart coverage is correspondingly heavy — expect several branches within 200 m of the door, along with drugstore chains and bank ATMs on Chongqing South Road itself. Convenience stores handle EasyCard top-ups, and this is where you buy an umbrella in November.

Not verified branch by branch. Individual convenience-store and pharmacy addresses were not confirmed for this report and are not listed. The density claim holds for the district; check the specific nearest branch on arrival rather than routing to an address from this page.

Just Outside the Radius

蜂大咖啡 (No. 42) and 南美咖啡 (No. 44), Chengdu Road — approximately 950 m, 12 minutes, so outside the stated radius but worth the extra two minutes. Fongda has traded since 1956, siphon brewing, 08:00–20:00, set including a drink NTD 130, one drink minimum and a 60-minute limit; Nanmei is next door and opens 07:30. Together they are the oldest surviving coffee houses in the district.

Every day of the window: Taipei Guest House (16) almost certainly closed — weekend openings only, 1–2 days a month.
