Costco Neihu (好市多內湖店)
No. 268, Sec. 1, Jiuzong Road, Neihu District (台北市內湖區舊宗路一段268號)
Hours: 10:00–21:30 daily · Telephone: +886-2-8791-0110

Taipei City holds two Costco branches — Neihu and Beitou (No. 117, Lide Road). This report covers Neihu, the original and the one usually meant.

Transit warning. Costco Neihu is not served directly by MRT. It sits in the Jiuzong Road big-box strip beside IKEA and Carrefour, roughly 20 minutes on foot from the nearest usable station. Buses 204, 207, 214 and 63 serve the area; the 民權幹線 runs from City Hall in around 15 minutes. Budget for a taxi if carrying Costco volumes.

Distances below are measured from the store.

1. 基隆河右岸 / 彩虹河濱公園 — Riverside Path

Distance: ~500 m — directly behind the retail strip
Admission: Free, open access

A 27-hectare riverside park on the Keelung River's right bank, bounded on the landward side by exactly the warehouse retail and office blocks that make Jiuzong Road what it is. The right-bank cycle route runs 20.6 km — roughly 80 minutes end to end — linking Nanhu, Chengmei, Rainbow, Neihu Sports Park and Meiti riverside parks.

YouBike docking is available along the corridor, though the Guanshan and Meiti rental stations operate weekends only. Neihu Sports Park is the practical entry point for a ride. This is the only item on the list doable in the hour after a shopping run.

2. 郭氏古宅 / 郭子儀紀念堂 — Guo Family Mansion

Distance: ~2 km
Address: No. 19, Lane 267, Wende Road (台北市內湖區文德路267巷19號). Some official listings give Lane 241 — the site is beside MRT Wende either way.
Nearest MRT: Wende Station (文德站, Brown Wenhu Line), exit 1 — 2–3 minutes on foot
Admission: Free · Telephone +886-2-2659-8787

A two-storey Western-style red-brick mansion built in 1917 (Taishō 6) by local gentry 郭華溪; known locally as the 內湖紅樓, the Neihu Red House. Designated a municipal historic site in June 1999 and opened to the public in February 2012 as the 郭子儀紀念堂.

The interest is the hybrid construction: a Western gabled façade over a conventional Taiwanese 一正兩廂 plan, decorated with a mixture of Western, Han and Taiwanese floral motifs in washed granolithic finish, moulded plaster and imported coloured tile.

Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–17:00. Closed Monday and Thursday — an unusual pattern. For a Nov 2–6 trip that means closed Mon 2 Nov and Thu 5 Nov; open Tue 3, Wed 4 and Fri 6 Nov, mornings or afternoons but not across lunch.

3. 金面山親山步道 — Jinmianshan Trail and the Qing Quarry

Distance: ~3 km to the trailhead at Lane 136, Sec. 1, Huanshan Road
Nearest MRT: Xihu Station (西湖站, Brown Wenhu Line) — 15 minutes on foot to the trailhead
Admission: Free

The peak is only 258 m. The reason to climb it is underfoot: Jinmianshan was a major Qing dynasty quarry, and the workings survive intact as a designated historic site. The quartz sandstone cut here during the Guangxu reign built the Taipei prefectural city wall and the old National Taiwan University Hospital. The quarrying ran east from Jinmianshan to Xiao Jinmianshan.

The summit rock, 剪刀石 (Scissors Rock), gives the mountain its alternate name — from Bishanyan the summit boulder reads as a bird's beak.

Route from the Lane 136 trailhead: 松友坪 0.26 km (~15 min) → 剪刀石山 stamp post 0.46 km (~21 min) → summit 0.43 km (~21 min) → pavilion 0.4 km (~16 min) → Sec. 3 Neihu Road trailhead 0.75 km (~27 min). Roughly 1.5–2 hours as a loop.
November caution. The final approach is bare rock scrambling with fixed ropes, not walking. Under the northeast monsoon — 15–17 rain days in a typical November, persistent drizzle — the sandstone is slick. Do this on a dry morning or not at all. Gloves recommended. Lane 136 is narrow with effectively no parking.

4. 大湖公園 錦帶橋 — Dahu Park Moon Bridge

Distance: ~4.5 km
Nearest MRT: Dahu Park Station (大湖公園站, Brown Wenhu Line) — the park is across the road
Admission: Free, open access. Underground car park adjacent.

Laid out in 1979 beside 白鷺山 (Egret Mountain), which gives the lake its alternate name 白鷺湖. The 錦帶橋 moon bridge placed above the Harry Potter Glenfinnan Viaduct in a widely circulated bridge poll and was subsequently picked up by Le Monde and the Daily Mail — an unusual level of foreign attention for a municipal park feature.

Also on site: the 九曲橋 zigzag bridge, waterside pavilions and constructed ecological floating islands. Best light is dusk, and the bridge is lit after dark.

The bald cypresses (落羽松) peak mid-December to mid-January. A Nov 2–6 visit is before the colour. Go for the bridge and the lake, not the trees.

5. 白石湖吊橋 · 同心池 · 碧山巖 — Baishihu

Distance: ~7 km, uphill
Transit: MRT Neihu Station (內湖站) exit 1 → 小2 bus to 碧山巖 stop → 3 minutes on foot. Alternative: bus to 湖光市場, then 小2 from beside the China Medical University Hospital Taipei branch.
Admission: Free

A 116 m footbridge spanning the gap between the Zhongyong and Dalluntou ridges, built on a dragon-spine motif with no visible suspension cables — hence its description as a hidden suspension bridge. Within walking distance: the 同心池, a spring-fed wetland landscaped into concentric circles, and the 夫妻樹 paired trees. 碧山巖 temple sits above, with the standard Taipei basin overlook.

The strawberry farms are shut in November. Baishihu's ten-plus pick-your-own strawberry operations run December to May. A Nov 2–6 visit misses the season entirely. The lily bloom at 同心池 is June. Come for the bridge, the wetland and the view — and do not build the day around fruit picking.

Sequencing

All five are on the Brown Wenhu Line's Neihu segment or reachable from it, which makes them combinable with a Costco run but awkward to chain to each other on foot. A workable half-day: Wende (Guo Family Mansion) → Xihu (Jinmianshan) on the same line, or Dahu Park → 小2 to Baishihu as a single uphill excursion.

Best day inside the Nov 2–6 window: Wed 4 Nov or Fri 6 Nov — the only days on which the Guo Family Mansion is open and the rest of the list is unaffected. Mon 2 Nov and Thu 5 Nov lose the mansion.
