What It Is

The farthest of these ten trips, crossing from New Taipei into Yilan County — still doable in a day, but with the least slack if transit runs late. Two stops anchor it: Wushi Harbor (烏石港) in Toucheng Township, the departure point for whale- and dolphin-watching boats, and the National Center for Traditional Arts (國立傳統藝術中心), a 24-hectare heritage-crafts park on the Dongshan River in Wujie Township.

Getting There

Bus: Kuo-Kuang Motor Transport from Yuanshan Bus Station to Toucheng, ~50 minutes; Kamalan Bus from Taipei Bus Station to Luodong via Yilan City.

Train: TRA to Luodong Station, then transfer to Dongshan River Route Green 21, Kamalan Bus 621, or a Taiwan Tourist Shuttle (roughly every 30–60 min) to the National Center for Traditional Arts stop.

By car via the Taipei–Yilan expressway (Xueshan Tunnel), either site is about an hour from central Taipei — public transit takes meaningfully longer.

Whale & Dolphin Watching

Boats depart Wushi Harbor on seasonal, weather-dependent tours; sightings (mostly dolphins, occasional whales) are more reliable in the calmer months of spring through autumn. Tours are run by multiple private operators rather than a single fixed schedule — book same-week rather than assuming a boat is available on arrival, and expect cancellation in rough seas.

National Center for Traditional Arts

Admission: NT$150 general, NT$120 discount (children 6–12, students), NT$75 seniors 65+; free under 6 or below 115cm, and for disabled visitors plus one companion.
Hours: 09:00–18:00, ticket sales until 17:00. On Mondays the Exhibition Hall opens later, at 12:00, and the Chiang Wei-shui Theater at 13:30.

The park recreates a Qing/Japanese-era Taiwanese street of craft workshops — puppet-making, paper umbrellas, glass-blowing, textile dyeing — with working demonstrations alongside retail, set along the Dongshan River.

This is the only one of the ten trips where the return transit window matters: confirm the last bus or train back to Luodong/Taipei before committing to a late finish at either site.
