What It Is

Wulai is a mountain township south of Taipei and the traditional territory of the Atayal (泰雅) people, built along the Nanshi River gorge. It combines three separate draws in one trip: riverside hot springs, an Old Street of Atayal food and crafts, and Wulai Waterfall, at roughly 80 metres one of the taller waterfalls in northern Taiwan, reached by aerial gondola.

Getting There

MRT to Xindian Station, then bus 849 to Wulai — the correct stop is outside the station on Beixin Road, not the bus bays inside the station building. Journey ~40 minutes; buses run roughly every 15–60 minutes depending on time of day.

Hot Springs

Free public riverside pools sit along the Nanshi River below the Old Street — swimwear required, no reservation. Paid hotel and resort spring facilities line the same stretch for those wanting private or indoor bathing.

Waterfall & Gondola

The Wulai gondola (Cloud Ferry / Yun Hsien Resort cable car) runs 09:00–17:00 (some listings give 09:00–16:30), departures every 10–15 minutes. Round-trip walk-in fare is around NT$300; online booking (Klook and similar) typically discounts to around NT$220. From the upper station it is a short walk to the waterfall viewpoint. A separate small-gauge Wulai Scenic Train also runs a short stretch of the old logging railway near the Old Street.

Old Street

Atayal specialities: roasted mountain pork, bamboo rice, wild-vegetable dishes, and millet wine (小米酒), sold from stalls and small restaurants the length of the street.
